John is a native of Ottawa and grew up in McKellar Park. He attended Broadview Avenue Public School and Nepean High School. He is a graduate of Queens University in Kingston where he obtained both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Law degrees. He was called to the Ontario Bar at Osgoode Hall in 1974.

He has spent all his life in Ottawa and firmly believes in community service, following the example set by his parents. To this end he has done hands on volunteer work and has served as a community leader on many boards including the Council of Partners/Success by Six, The Glebe Centre, a provincial long-term care facility, the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa (past President), the Woodroffe North Community Association (past President) and the Big Rideau Lake Association (former Director/Officer and current Director of Membership).big rideau lake

John is a former 16-year associate member of the Ottawa-Carleton Homebuilders’ Association, a current member of the Big Rideau Lake Association, the Old Ottawa South Community Association (he currently resides in Old Ottawa South) and the Kiwanis Club of Ottawa. John is a financial supporter of The Hospice at May Court, the United Way, Run for the Cure, Royal Ottawa Hospital Foundation For Mental Health, and several other local charities.

John’s professional affiliations include membership in the Canadian Real Estate Association, the Ontario Real Estate Association, the Ottawa Real Estate Board, the Law Society of Upper Canada and the County of Carleton Law Association.

John was a former instructor with the Law Society of Upper Canada Bar Admission Course- Real Estate and Landlord and Tenant, he has been a guest lecturer with the Ontario Homebuilders Association and is a guest lecturer and seminar leader for local professional organizations and community/service club groups.
